I think Im in perfect agreement with Dele here. Its always been a delight to read the poetry of
Chidi Opara on this forum with its distinctive style, that constitutes a bridge in the discontinuity of the Greats in our literary cannon. We on our part await your return to base to stimulate the ground work for the "Mbari Movement" of our generation. As you will realize in the coming months I shall not be stinting in the contributions to such resurgence. Chidi Opara's poetic style assures we may have in our midst the next poet of the people...

Chidi:
Could you please do an anthology of your poems so that we can have an oeuvre at one go!
Congrats and more successes.

At dusk
We walk in slow steps
From the square
To the sacred grove.
We walk in single file,
Our lips sealed with fronds.
We walk with our loins
Concealed in loincloths,
Our bodies painted white,
Our scalps hairless,
We will become men tonight.
The priest sits waiting,
Our fathers wait,
Ancestors await our arrival.
We walk
Into the embrace of the gods
And learn secrets of our land.
We become men
And dance to the beat
Of the sacred drum.
At dawn
We depart the sacred grove
And walk
Into the bosom of maidens,
Our betrothed.
