Let's even agree that Gaddafi was a " crazeman." But as a crazeman, he developed his country, improved the lives of his people, and created safety nets - social welfare in ways that no other country did/does. To top it, he accomplished all that without getting Libya into debt. This craze man also created an African Investment Fund and urged African leaders not to rely on Western aid. He also told them not to steal and impoverish their countries. You would find Libyans stricken by poverty or unemployment, even if they had no work. How did a crazeman afford the presence of his mind for such stewardship?
When people accuse him of funding revolts, they conveniently omit Libya's rule in funding anti-apartheid movements in South Africa when the same Western countries branded Mandela as a terrorist. One of Mandela's grandsons named after Gaddafi.
Did the West not sponsor a devastating two decades war in Angola? Did they not destabilize Namibia, Mozambique? How is that more pious than Gaddafi's? Nobody is declaring Gaddafi to be a saint but the propaganda narratives in mainstream news outlets give life to the paraphrased quote:
"The evil that men do lives after them but the good is always interred in their bones - so let it be with Gaddafi."
Yes, the 16 items ARE ALL TRUE. I was shocked, too. This "revolt," was not about the standard of living - of which Libya had the highest in Africa - or even about democracy. It was about access to power by elites who are supported by Western interests and Arabs with axes to grind. If it was about democracy, nothing explains the executive decrees being issued by non-elected fighters as new leaders. Liberators for democracy do not ask NATO (foreign powers) to stay in a police capacity with immunity to kill.
Even those who opposed Gaddafi would agree. But as human nature, some thought maybe the goodies would increase with this " new liberation. " However, grim realities are sinking. In Tripoli, the electricity is sporadic. Hospitals were bombed and women can as well deliver at home. NATO also bombed the man-made lake. Thousands lost their homes. At moment, there is no functional government with militia factions wanting "combat payback." Misrata will keep the oil portfolio having fought hardest (democracy by the gun oye).
We all love democracy but it is pure madness to destroy centuries of civilization and infrastructure just to replace it with nothing that can be seen as even civilized. More insulting, Libyan monies will be used to pay contractors from the countries that destroyed Libya.
The New World Order is Phoney. Africans need to wake up and learn triple fast.
Hakim Belhadj, the military commander in Tripoli is a known Al Queda operative who was kidnapped by the British M16. He is not interested in democracy. He is sponsored by Qatar (a dynastic dictatorship and owner of Al Jezeera); takes no order from NTC; and pays more credence to the ideas of the person who replaced Osama Bin Laden. LONG LIVE LIBERATION IN LIBYA.
