Head of Centre – Agadagba, Nigeria

The Head of Centre for this project will play a significant role in overseeing all aspects of the student experience within this residential training facility. A key feature of this post will be the contract management and liaison between Agadagba Riverside Training Centre (ARC) at Ondo; Nigerian Government authorities and departments and Highbury College management. Fostering and ensuring good relations between these parties is critical to the success of the project.

 

This is a new purpose built training centre and the post-holder will be expected to oversee the appropriate completion of the design, development and initialisation of the new facility on site, including resourcing and staffing. Initial objectives include completion of the centre leading to a successful opening with a first intake of students through to successful learning programme outcomes, to Highbury College standards of operation and performance.

Description of duties

Main duties and responsibilities:

·         To provide overall day to day management of the ARC project at Ondo

·         To promote high staff motivation and morale and to be responsible for creating an appropriate ethos and identity for the Centre

·         To work towards outstanding provision for students in line with Highbury College's vision, mission, strategic priorities and objectives

·         To co-ordinate academic delivery and support services ,providing leadership and direction

·         To oversee the management of site facilities in accordance with needs of the community and occupants including established safe, healthy and suitable standards of operation

·         To achieve outcomes as identified in the ARC project targets

Essential criteria:

·         Qualified to degree level or equivalent

·         Experience of working internationally, preferably within West Africa

·         Experience of project management, preferably within an educational environment

·         Ability to communicate and negotiate sensitively taking in to consideration cultural differences

·         Ability to manage a significant budget across different currencies

·         People management skills, including leadership and team-working

·         Knowledge of training and skills for practical vocations, preferably of the construction and/or oil/gas industry

·         A broad range of general management knowledge to be responsible for all aspects of a self-contained centre

·         Understanding of safeguarding in the context of education

·         Resilience, determination and ambition to achieve

·         Confidence, presence and gravitas inspiring authority

·         Good listening skills

·         Even temperament

·         Demonstrates and upholds fairness and equality

 

Desirable criteria:

·         Training in HR/people management

·         Experience within a construction environment

·         Speaker of one or more foreign language
