Subject: [UDADISI: Rethinking in Action] HARVARD, SLAVERY AND REPARATION
This past week what began as an undergraduate research seminar in 2007 culminated in the publication of a booklet on the historical connection between Harvard University and Slavery. The launching of the seminal-to-be booklet, as the photos below shows, was both solemn and lively. There was that tense moment when the question of the university 'giving back' to the community that suffered slavery popped up. That question, as it was highlighted in the debate, has to be addressed at the institutional level and not just the community or individual level. Thus the issue of what to do with 'privilege' that is associated with Harvard, a term that came up more than once, cuts across individual, community and institutional levels.Visit: http://www.harvardandslavery.com/
