As a leader in international exchange for more than 30 years, AED has been at the forefront of fostering grassroots citizen diplomacy and human development through tailored programs that have connected people and helped shape the thinking and practice of nearly 15,000 current and emerging leaders world-wide. In this publication, the authors present impact snapshots of AED's international professional, cultural, and youth exchange programs through short narratives, pictures, and the participants' own words. It focuses on five key AED program areas—education, economic development, health, peace and tolerance, and youth—to demonstrate how participants have applied what they have learned or done during their U.S. experiences in their work and lives back home. In doing so, the report shows the unique nature of exchange programs and how they have been a catalyst for bridging cultural gaps, building mutual understanding, building capacity, and dispelling pre-conceived notions among global citizens, while at the same time empowering them to generate ideas and create change in their communities.
