Ban on same sex: PFN backs Senate
BY LUKA BINIYAT, Kaduna
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) yesterday said it was in total support of the Senate for passing the bill making same sex marriage in Nigeria a crime that carries 14 years jail term.
The PFN also lampooned some western countries for threatening Nigeria with sanctions should the bill be passed into law.
The UK had warned of withdrawing some of its assiatance to Nigeria should the bill become a law.
Speaking to newsmen in Kaduna yesterday, the chairman of the Kaduna state chapter of the PFN, Bishop David Bakare said; " the Senate has done Nigerians proud by having the moral courage to pass this bill. We call on President Goodluck Jonathan not to give in to the blackmail of any western nation and sign the bill into law.
"The decision of the Senate on the matter has brought hope and pride to the Nigerian people."
Nigerians are hopeful that the House of Representatives will exhibit the same courage like the Senate in passing the Bill as early as possible."
"We commend the President of the Senate for asking every nation in the world to go to hell with their donations and assistance to Nigeria. It is time we begun to have such great Nigerians who could look at any so called donor nation in the face and tell them to go to hell with their donations if they don't like the laws of Nigeria.
"We hope the House of Representative will exhibit same courage and particularly President Goodluck Jonathan himself will go ahead and exhibit the same measure of courage in signing that bill to law as early as possible.
"This is one of the best things that ever happened to Nigeria through the Senate. This Act by the National Assembly has brought hope, courage, and pride to the Nigerian people that we are once again the giant of Africa indeed. Every Nigerian is proud of this.
"For once we can raise our head again in the comity of nations. It is commendable act and we hope nobody scuttle this process until it gets signed into law. Kudos to the president of the senate. We celebrate all Senators for being part of this. On behalf of the entire Pentecostal Fellowship in Kaduna state and indeed in Nigeria, we praise the Senate for such a great act that has made us proud again", he said.
