Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - ON THE QUESTION OF AN ANTI-BIAFRA GENOCIDE

Ikihide,

Get real.

You can speak up  only when you hear voices that embolden you when you are challenged.

You left it to others to defend your claims about anti-Biafra genocide.

You did not speak up when I challenged you. You hid behind claims of outrage and moral superiority.

I  dont see you as having the moral right to piggyback  now on more robust responses than you could muster.

If you  have any argument on why my presentation is justification of genocide    rather than explanation of the rationale for genocide without endorsing that rationale, please present it.

Dont simply repeat what someone else said.

Your presentation of a claim to knowledge on the bios on the January 1966 coup plotters does not contradict the attitudes that motivated those who saw them as pursuing an Igbo centred agenda. That is the historical record.

Presenting that record is not identical to endorsing that opinion. Obviously, your understanding of historical writing and interpretation is challenged.

Typical of your style  of avoiding challenges to your opinions, you are trying to sneak in an undefended critique of my very careful analysis of your other arguments so as to piggyback on the groundswell of support you think your position has garnered.

If you have anything to say debunking my detailed  criticism of your ideas on Nigerian education, sweeping generalisations  that you cannot substantiate, please present them.

The tragedy is that approaches like yours impede the public exploration of serous issues beceause you refuse to stand up and be counted when challenged  unless you can get backers then you bask in the glow of others' efforts.

It is costing me more than a month of almost daily effort effort to stimulate a debate on this topic after you and your compatriots on Ederi tried tro browbeat me into silence, claiming there was nothing to discuss on the uncriticial valorising Ojukwu and  Biafra presented on that forum.

To highlight the significance of a debate on these issues beyond the perspectives presented here so far,  it is vital to note that no perspective presented by Harrow and Nwankamma who tok up the challenge you refused  to meet, efforts you want  to take advantange of,  is incontrovertible in the manner in which they have presented them.

The fact that those arguments are not incontrovertible  means that examining them in terms of the broadest  range of relevant indices is  crucial rather than treating them as iron cast.

toyin

Hitler had his reasons for wanting to exterminate the Jews. He described them as  traitors to the body politic, along with other reasons he could have had.

Taking note of that rationale and analysing it, is not identical to justifying it.

No study of the 1966 crises is complete without a discussion of the ethnic tensions that erupted in connection with the 1966 coup."

Toyin,

No, you are justifying a genocide, no ifs and buts about it. And you are doing exactly the same thing that those who retaliated after the "igbo coup" of 1966 did, which is taking a look at names (as you did mine), drawing conclusions and PUNISHING/exterminating a whole race. It is called ethnic cleansing. Since you seem adverse to doing real research (!) go and take a look at the backgrounds and ethnicities of the ring-leaders of the 1966 coup  (yes, their bios and where they were born, etc are on the Internet starting with Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu and then come talk with an informed voice about these issues. You should at least do the research, man, you should. What is wrong with you?

Ugo,

The Northerners did not simply wake up and attack Igbos.

They were motivated by the events of the coup and of  their suspicions of  Aguyi-Ironsi, who was Igbo, in his handling of the nation after he assumed power.

Such reasons  have to be noted in the historical record.

Noting such reasons is not identical with justifying their actions.

Hitler had his reasons for wanting to exterminate the Jews. He described them as  traitors to the body politic, along with other reasons he could have had.

Taking note of that rationale and analysing it, is not identical to justifying it.

No study of the 1966 crises is complete without a discussion of the ethnic tensions that erupted in connection with the 1966 coup.

No study of the Jewish Holocaust is complete without exploring the rationale for it and why it was possible to mobilise  the Nazis so effectively  for such a massive act of coordinated barbarity. That anti-Semitic mind set also needs to be understood in relation to centuries of European anti-Semitism, of which it was a climax.

Engaging in such analyses is not identical with justifying those genocidal actions.

thanks

Toyin,

You have just labored to justify genocide. Of course, there have to excuses for genocide. Nazis even concocted for the Holocaust. The Hutus came also up with excuses to massacre the Tutsis.

What you have done is not different.
