Hello Everyone,
This is an urgent message to you all and your organisaitons in respect of a disaster that is thretenig to befall the AU, not that it does nt oalready have its llimitations. Yaya Jammeh, the brutal disctor in the Gambia has proposed himself as the next Chairman of the AU a matter which will be decided on the 29th of January 2012 at Addis. A group of Gambian civil society organisaitons that have been struggling over the years for respect for rights, and restoration of democracy and the rule of law are issuing a statement for the attention of the Heads of States and Governments attending the summit. As an organisation that is committed to rights, democracy and the rule of law, I am forwarding to you the draft statement for your attention. If your organisation finds it acceptable and would like to add its name to the protest against Yahya Jammeh's candidature in solidarity with the people of the Gambia let me know immediately so I can pass the name of your organisation over to the Gambiams who are organising this protest statement.
It is important that the statement and those who support and identifywith it finalised by the end of the working day on Wenesday, 25th Janauary 2012 so it can be forwarded to Addis by Thursday ahead of the Summit on Sunday the 29th for optimum impact.
The statement has been prepared this last hour because Yahya Jammeh only just declared his intentions. Apologies
Trust we can count on your support.
Akoto Ampaw (Sheey Sheey).

Dear Sheey Sheey, Please find attached the draft text for your perusal and input. Please feel free to share it with the Ghanaian organisations high;lighted in Red, whom I have met prior to this and whom indicated interest in working with us on issues concerning The Gambia, namely ( The Centre for Democracy and Development –Ghana,, Ghana Trades Union Congress,The Ghana Bar Association, Afro Barometer – Ghana) If there are others I did not meet whom you think will be interested, please share the text with them. I know its a last minute job, but be kind enough to ensure we get the text back (with their various comments by tomorrow end of the working day). Best. Ndey Tapha |
