RE: USA Africa Dialogue Series - BEWARE OF FAKE REVELATIONS OF BOKO HARAM SPONSORS

i)            Why is the story “too sweet”? Why is the name fake? Blessing is not an incongruous name for a happy new Christian convert who despises his former faith.

ii)          Why must the names of alleged sponsors be unlikely names? Is it not the case that a former state governor was questioned in connection with Boko Haram sponsorship? President Jonathan is on record as saying that Boko Haram’s supporters populate all levels of Nigeria’s power echelons and security services.

iii)        Are Blessing Usman’s “derogatory remarks’ not characteristic of deserters of a religion who convert to another? Desertion has to be explained and justified. Remember Enoch in Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart”?

I have some concerns about the confession too.

I have seen and heard enough in my time however to know that the lethal combination of arrogant ambition, shameless ignorance, reckless imagination, and blinding egotism help to mould extremisms that ultimately seek to actualize fantasies by imposing the will of extremists on all others at any cost. There are times I think that Nigeria is for many of her powerful and rich, a business first and only. How better does one explain the fusion of desperation and resoluteness that make political elections and political power grab grave matters of life and death almost all the time? Nigeria for them is a gift that goes on giving.

So much that is unthinkable and unimaginable has happened in Nigeria that there are now many who believe that there is not much about Nigeria that is too strange to be true. How does one explain or understand why the world’s fifth largest exporter of crude petroleum has been one of the largest importers of refined petroleum products for decades. Does every right thinking person not know that only a moronic cassava farmer will sell his cassava crop to buy garri from his cassava customer interminably?

I hope that the Blessing Usman confession is a concoction and no better than that.

Subject: USA Africa Dialogue Series - BEWARE OF FAKE REVELATIONS OF BOKO HARAM SPONSORS

I’ve just read the celebrated story titled 'Boko Haram Member Exposed!!! Ibrahim Babangida is the sponsor of Boko Haram’. The author had encouraged readers to forward the message to those anxiously waiting to know the sponsors of Boko Haram. The report according to the author emanated from the excerpt of a book - Unveiling Boko Haram authored by a prominent member of the group by the name Blessing Usman, who has just been converted to the Christian faith. (See the attached). A careful study of the work has shown that the book if it actually exists is the work of the third columnist. I see a lot of fabrication of facts and attempt to nail some leaders of the country. Nigerians should beware of fakes who are zealous in seeing the downfall of their potential enemies. The following points will give honest leaders some food for thought:

1. The story of Blessing Usman is too sweet for a critical scholar to believe. This is because the name of the Boko Haram member turned Christian appeared fake.

2. Prominent people alleged as sponsors of Boko Haram such as Ibrahim Babangida, Atiku Abubakar, Mohammadu Buhari, Ali Baba Nur, Asari Dokubo, Jasper Akinbo, Mohammed Yusuf, Salisu Maigari, Danlami Abubakar, Cletus Okar, Ali Qaqa, Maigari Haliru and Asabe Dantala unnamed emirs and governors are far from being true.

3. Blessing Usman's derogatory comment about Islam and its adherence calling them hypocrites embarking on religion of violence is unbecoming of a good Christian that he not claim to be.

If the author is sure of his fact he should come out from hiding and publicly show evidences of his claims in the book. People behind this type of faking are enemies of peace and unity of the Nigeria nation. They need to be closely watched.  Dayo Alao, Babcock University.
