Either Lamido Sansui do not understand the correlation between educated society and employment or he is just plain playing politics. Many of us have been expecting emergence of a group like Boko Haram or major riot in the North. Educated society create wealth, middle class and jobs. In the case of Kano and Yobe, how many of the citizen can read or write? Maybe less than 30%, therefore they have 70% of the population unemployable. I am sure the unemployment rate in these states will be between 60-70%.
Unless something is done about the number of Northerners without formal education, Nigeria is in trouble. They can not create wealth, unemployable and only
depend on Federal handout. Even if the entire Federal budget is allocated to North, the outcome will still be the same. When a men refuse to educate his children, they will eventually become a burden to the society.
We all need to give women from the south credit for the development in the region. They spend countless hours everyday selling whatever just to raise money to send their children to school. I see them in Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi selling rosted plaintain, corn, etc. They the rock that hold the family and future of the country. They may not have formal education but work very hard to make sure their children get it. Mr. Sanusi take note, there is direct correlation between someone level education and ability to get job or create wealth. Less than .5% of people with Master degree make up 8.3 % unemployment rate in USA whereas 90% of welfare recipient never finished high school.
In short, there is no correlation between derivative for South-south and high level poverty in the north. It is a self inflicted poverty which is legacy indirect rule during
colonization and which elite in North still operate to dehumanize their people. The scary thing is that these uneducated northerners are now producing children at alarming rate and I am afraid that Boko Haram may not be worst.
There will never be equity in Nigeria so long as the gap in education between states remain this wide. Late Awo developed many incentive for Northerner parents to send their school while he was defacto Vice President of Nigeria but was opposed by the elites.
Unemployment rate in SW is about 8% despite the fact that most of northern states recieve more allocation than them. I hope the next time, Sanusi will compare Kano to Oyo state and Osun to Kastina. Lamido should know that Lagos and South-south are not states to compare with northern states. In fact, SE states that suffer from the war have move on to educate their people massively and with good leadership the zone can revive their industries.
In short, Sanusi is behaving like an ostrich that put is head in the sand. Whether they like it or not, the north will still must deal with their education problem or will remain like Haiti forever. How many Northerners have access to computer or internet? so how would contribute to development of Nigeria in IT world. It is scary that half
the country depend on Federal government employment.
