PROFESSOR Wole Soyinka's oblique support for the gays is most disappointing because of his status as the defender of moral principles. Again, his support, by castigating the Senators that "they should go back to schools" for passing the Anti-Same – Sex Marriage Bill, is unfortunate. It is incumbent on the National Assembly to legislate against harmful practices. Christian clergy are known to possess moral fibre. That the son of a clergyman is opposed to Anti- Same Sex- Marriage Bill leaves much to be desired.
One can understand Soyinka's reason for his statement. If he did not make that remark about the Bill, he could be bundled out of the United States of America and denied re-entry. He forgets that by virtue of his literary attainment (as a laureate), he is a citizen of the World, and can take up residence somewhere else. Therefore, he should have called a spade a spade to shame the Devil, or in the alternative, kept mum over the issue.
The World is gradually sliding towards the edge of precipice. And it may crash, if caution is cast to the winds. Latter-day Sodom and Gomorrah is here with us, as can be observed. All sexual immoralities are encapsulated in the word "Gay'. Apart from homosexualism (that is, Sexual attraction of men to men), it is also lesbianism – (that is, sexual attraction of women to women). Relationships can be lesbian or homo-sexual. These originated among the Whites and not the Africans. In Africa, we are straight or heterosexual and not homosexual. It is a bad practice which the Whites want to assimilate into African culture. Why is it that anything bad is usually associated with Africa?
When Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), an-as yet- incurable disease, was first identified in 1980, the Whites asserted that it was of African origin, whereas it was first identified in Los Angeles (US). AIDS is essentially a sexually transmitted disease, homosexually or heterosexually. Scientists disclosed that the virus is of animal origin. It is observed that whites have excessive passion for animals as pets. Wild carnivorous animals such as lions or tigers are kept in the zoos. The passions for animals as pets encourage freedom for cats and dogs into whites' bedrooms. In the late 1960s, at the fore-count of the Central Library, Lagos Island, I witnessed the incident of a white mistress who gave her dog a smacking kiss in the mouth inside her car before she entered into the library. Being my first experience, I found it shocking to the bone marrow! Is it not possible for a kiss to lead to sexual intercourse? It is un-African to kiss
animals. It is against our culture. Students of English and European History can attest to the fact that during the World Wars, German soldiers were in the habit of having sexual affairs with animals whenever they felt randy. If Africans sleep on trees as primordially alleged, bestiality belongs to European culture and not to Africans. And it shall never be.
Same-sex-marriage involves putting man's penis into the anus of another man. With constant intercourse, the penis (like sandpaper) abrades the walls of the partner's anus, to cause it injuries and pains, whenever he farts or defecates. The injury so sustained can cause serious diseases to both homosexuals. This bestiality is common in the U.S. and Europe. The whites want it infiltrated into Africa, including Nigeria, by soft sell and hard sell. When the missionaries came to Nigeria, they brought the Ten Commandments which tallied with our tradition of moral decency. The Ten Commandments further enhanced our moral heritage. Today, the descendants of the missionary preachers are imploring us to jettison moral rectitude and embrace the depravity of same-sex-marriage. What explanation do the Neo-imperialists have for this volte-face?
The United States plans to protect the gays in Nigeria and other countries by a staggering $3 million Global Equality Fund to support civil society organisations working for their rights for Same-Sex-Marriages. The world is in topsy-turvy. Where do we stand? Those who claimed to be morally decent are now morally decadent. Surprisingly, Britain the mother country, where the Sovereign is the Head of the Church of England that dispatched its gospel preachers to parts of the world, now joins in the oddity of Same-Sex Marriage!
The United States, acclaimed to be "God's own country", does not seem to deserve this appellation. There, gay Bishops were consecrated and led to marriage altars. Not only that, in North America, several lawsuits were instituted against orthodox Anglicans, because of their opposition to Same-Sex-teachings of the US Episcopal Church. Same-Sex is demonic and signifies an imminent destruction of the World. Because of Nigeria's initiative of establishing the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA) to cater for Christians opposed to same-sex, the United States' response is the above named Global Equality Fund. Since the passage of Anti-Same-Sex Bill by the Senate, Nigeria received strong criticisms and warnings from the British, Canadian and the United States of American governments, which individually threaten to withdraw aids and other forms of assistance to Nigeria, if the law is allowed to exist.
The threat of denying us loans and other aids is insulting. It is no grandstanding to allude that my article in July 1967 (Sunday Post newspaper) was in condemnation of Foreign Aids that stunted our development and lulled us into complacency. These were because of the strings usually attached to them. With all the past Foreign Aids, Nigeria remains in a stupor. Therefore, let the Neo-imperialists pocket their loans and aids. We can pull ourselves up by our bootstraps without them. Sometimes on reflections, I conclude that the Whites who point fingers of barbarism at us are themselves barbaric. It is not only science or technology that hallmarks civilization. Civilisation goes beyond the technology of televisions and mobile phones. When man takes man to the altar for marriage, and later puts his penis into the anus of the man, it is the height of barbarism and lunacy.
What is the genesis of this absurdity? To my understanding, the Permissive Society of 1960s and 1970s is responsible for the mania of same-sex- marriages (greater freedom in sexual matters). Permissiveness allows freedom of behaviour in sexual matters which people do not approve of. In the 1960s and 1970s permissive parents allowed their children lot of freedom. Homosexualism and lesbianism are the permissive social attitudes of the periods. The proponents of same-sex marriages are the generations of that period. On both sides of the Atlantic, the advocates of the demonic idea were born, and nurtured to embrace it. That is why the present generations in Britain and the United States are gay pride. The Western nations wish us to accept their depraved excesses with gay abandon. We must resist it.
What are the implications of same- sex marriages? They are many. First, why should the West brow-beat Africans into accepting this unnatural marriage? African countries are sovereign in political status. Secondly, are the health implications considered? In Africa, our health care delivery system is sub-standard, if not nil. How many hospitals and health personnel do we have to cope with any health problems that may emanate from same-sex marriages? Sodomy (putting a man's penis in another's anus) is Anti-Mother Nature and tragic. Emanating diseases can bring pressures on the resources of the governments. Thirdly, the advocates of the satanic practices – U.S. and Britain – shall absolve themselves of responsibilities and abandon us to our fates. Their loans and aids cannot save us. We are confronted by the bogey of HIV/AIDS, still incurable, the ogre of same-sex marriages is to be added to it!
What are the ways out? The National Assembly must go ahead with the passing of the anti-same-sex law. There must be no looking back. We cannot follow the multitudes in the U.S. and Britain to do evil. If the U.S. and Britain decide to encourage their citizens to walk in the nude along the streets, that is their business. Africans must not follow suit. The much-desired mental liberation from Neo-colonialism must begin from now and from sex law. Further, the Federal, states and local governments must brace up for organided enlightenment campaigns in the media, churches, mosques, markets and open squares against the infiltration of same-sex marriages into our culture.
