I am at a conference but let me state briefly that Chielo's piece is a masterful articulation and critique of what one might call the discourses of liberal luxury. These discourses are spectacularly burdened by blind spots and a jarring, not to mention paradoxical, lack of empathy. By the way, the ACAS position on Kony 2012 posted by Ken is incredibly underwhelming. It says nothing new, simply rehashing the traditional, familiar liberal critiques of Western 'interventionist naïveté and excess. The fact that they have somehow convinced themselves that their critics do not subscribe to those criticisms and in fact give a sympathetic understanding to Kony2012 IN SPITE OF these shortcomings is a testament to the counterproductive incestuousness of the liberal critical industrial complex.
Sent from my iPad----Please, whatever you do, take time out to read Professor Chielozona Eze's perspective on the Invisible Children's KONY 2012 video. Eze, who himself survived Biafra as a child looks at the critics of the KONY 2012 video coolly in the eyes and tells them a few truth. This one is a must read. Please read and share. And while you are on his blog, subscribe to it. Eze is one of Africa's quiet literary revolutionaries, promoting the literature of Africa, one blogpost at a time. Applause. Read and share please. The world must hear of the atrocities going on in Africa while Western liberals and many African intellectuals overdose on navel-gazing.
