We will be doing a hands-on web based training in WorldMap and AfricaMap, part of the new free web-based mapping platform that supports innovative research and teaching (worldmap.harvard.edu). This web based training will take place on Thursday March 29 from 9-12 AM EST. We have allocated the 11-12 time slot for French if there is enough interest. The program is part of the conference "Re-Mapping Africa in GIS: From Humanities to Health" taking place at Harvard University. The conference, co-chaired by myself and Julia Finkelstein, is organized through the Center for Geographic Analysis at Harvard, under the sponsorship of the Committee for African Studies at Harvard. The training will be undertaking by myself, Julia Finkelstein along with research scientist, Ben Lewis, co-creator and Project Manager of WorldMap. Details on the live on the web-based training are available at the conference website (http://gis.harvard.edu/conference). A program of the March 30 conference is available for download at this same website.
WorldMap (worldmap.harvard.edu) is a GIS based mapping system created at the Center for Geographic Analysis at Harvard University that seeks to bring together the best available mapping data in an open source and interactive platform, along with tools that allow one to upload one's own maps, create and publish new maps, drawing on bringing into play mapping data from throughout the system.
