Dear Mr. Kassim,
I like your analysis why Dr. Okonjo-Iweala would not receive the support of President Obama. If that be the case, why did our President nominate her? It appears as if we are blind to the impossibility of Dr. Okonjo-Iweala's chance of winning the race. We must not be emotional about something that is so glaring in this matter.
What I understand Dr. Ojo saying is that Dr. Okonjo-Iweala is highly qualified for the job but unfortunately she is not the most qualified.
Let us go back and clean up our house and put things in order and the rest of world we respect us. Right now Nigeria has no respect anywhere in the world for her to cry foul in this matter at all. Let us be frank with ourselves. Until we do that may we not for the sake of justice and fair play engage in such a fruitless effort of nomination to the highest position like the President of World Bank.
Prof. Segun Ogungbemi.

Dr Ojo:

I believe you suffer from a heavy burden of inferiority complex which
prevents you from deriving any kind of satisfaction or joy
from the successes of a fellow Nigerian citizens..

that prevents you from seeing the merits and burden and the beauty

in your own kind.

Jim Yong Kim, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Columbia's Finance Minister are
the three individuals whose nominations have been accepted for consideration by the
board of the World Bank.

If Mr Kim wins, as expected it would not  necessarily be because he is the most accomplished

of the three candidates but more largely due to the following factors:

1) He is bonafide citizen of the US and will be heavily promoted by the Obama government and supported

by practically every other member country of the G8 and most of members of the G20.
Traditionally, the President of the World Bank has always been a US citizen while the President of the IMF
has always been a French citizen. It would be risky for Obama to give up this privileged position in an election year.

2) Most of the previous Presidents of the World Bank have been bankers and economists.

There is a movement around the world led by Jeff Sacchs that has been advocating for a change in direction
and focus of the World Bank from Banking, Loans and Loan management to that of Human Development worldside
especially in the poor developing countries.
Jim Yong Kim is not banker. He is a world renowned expert in the field of International Development in addition to a solid background
in management as the President of Dartmouth College.
Jim Kim Yong has the edge on this factor over the other two contenders.

3)  Not only would most Americans citizens and Europeans be rooting for Jim Yong Kim, there would hardly be any vocal opposition
from South Korea, a country he left when he was only one year old. It us almost a given that the overwhelming majority of
Colombians will be rooting for Mr Ocampo with hardly any vocal
opposition on Columbian Internel newsgroups..

It is only in Nigeria that egg heads like yourself would be voicing opposition to one of their own who has done well
on the world stage. Okonjo-Iweala would be disadvantaged simply by the Nigerian factor--the pervasive negativism of her citizens
before she would be touched by the fact of Nigeria being a corruption tolerant nation,

Okonjo-Iweala has proven her worth at the World Bank--a fact that has made one of the 5 directors worldwide reporting to the President of the institution
until her recent resignation so that she could serve the as the Finance Minister of Nigeria.
Another factor that might potentially work against Okonjo-Iweala is the fact that she would be considered an insider at the World Bank.
Most previous Presidents of the World Bank have been recruited from outside the organization.

.
Okonjo-Iwela is well qualified to serve as the President of the World Bank. If she loses the her bid it would be because Obama's successful campaign for
the US nominee who is also well qualified.

The only thing I can vouch for is that you are not fit to clean t  Okonjo-Iweala;s shoes not to mention carry her handbag! regardless of whether she wins or loses!

Bye,

Ola

"Oh, No!
They should have given her a chance.
Better luck, next time.
                 *ezekwe*"

They would never have given her any chance!

The West does not play 'kalo-kalo' with their economics, and there will be no "Better luck, next time", because there will be no "next time". The West has "used" your sister to collect the money they want from Nigeria, and DISCARDED her like a piece of banana peal.

Yes, you "need to be seen as dangerous [or threatening to the West] to gain respect" and attention from the West.

Or else, you don't even count!

When will Africans wake up from the childish and naive understanding of REAL POLITIK...?

If you can sell your nation down the drain like Ngozi sold Nigeria down the drain, you can not be TRUSTED!

Period!

Ngozi Okonjo-Ikweala simply does not have what it takes to head the World Bank - as far as the West is concerned!

This is your Nigerian Market Mama:
