| African playwright and poet, Prof. Ama Ata Aidoo, until recently with Brown University, turns 70 on March 23, 2012. As part of events marking this playwright's works, two books will be launched in Accra by the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana , HE John Mahama at the British Council Hall on the birthday. The event will be chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey.The books are one of short stories by Ama Ata Aidoo, Diplomatic Pounds and Other Stories and the second, Essays in Honor of Ama Ata Aidoo: A Reader in African Cultural Studies edited by Anne V Adams of Cornell University.They are published by Ayebia Clarke Publishers in Oxfordshire, UK It has contributions from major African writers, critics and other intellectuals including, Ngugi wa Thiong O', Abiola Irele, Biodun Jeyifo, Micere Mugo,Margaret Busby, Atu Kwei Okai, Toyin Falola, Naana Opoku Agyeman, Kofi Anyidoho, Micere Mugo, Cheryl Toman, Femi Osofisan, Omafo- Soyinka, Ivor Agyeman-Duah. The Ghana launch is before one by the Africa Literature Association of the United States in April and at the African Studies Association in November where Ama Ata Aidoo will give the Abiola Lecture. Here is an interview Ama Ata Aidoo gave fellow Ghanaian writer Ivor Agyeman-Duah in the March edition of New African publish in London. |
