Some years ago,the then, Olowo of Owo fell in love with Oresen,a very pretty goddess woman.
She could not live with human being due to her nature, the goddess,she was forbidden to see women pounding yam, draw water or throw bundle of fire wood on the ground.
Because of his love for the goddess, he olowo restricted other wives from all Oresen forbidden in other to marry her.
Some year later ,rivalry and and jealousy set in among other wives,so they was a revolted,all that was forbidden was break.
The goddess cast spell upon the other wives and the entire kingdom,of famine and sickness before her departure.
But she gave a condition that Olowo and his chiefs must hold a yearly ceremony in here honor and also offer a sacrifice of a man and a woman .
The Igogo festival stil hold up till date,every September of every year is fixed for the ceremony but the sacrifice of human being now replaced with goat and sheep.
This annual festival in Owo lasted for seventeen days featuring number of ceremonies including blessing and of new yam ,during the festival drumming is forbidden expect agogo t{the gong} which provides names for festival.
He Olowo, leads his chief priest and male youth from lloro quarters to dance round the town.
