"Until the African continent can break with imperialism the problems of food deficits, internal conflict and underdevelopment will continue."
What a premis and conclusion! Does the writer of this article really believe this?
And again...
"Political unity in Africa must be based on the conditions within the continent itself as well as the imperative of maintaining and honoring the sovereignty of various nation-states and regional organizations."
Does this mean protecting murderous political leaders like President Bashir of Sudan? What about justice for the hundreds of thousands of his victims in Darfur, Nuba Mountains, and Southern Blue Nile regions? Must one forego all that because of the "imperative of maintaining and honoring the sovereignty ... nation-states"?
Obviously Pan-Africanism is a worthy cause, but a Pan-Africanism or an African Union policy position that does not take into account the human and democratic rights of the various people of the African continent is downright idiotic and, for that matter, is bound to self-destruct because of that idiocy. The sooner this is recognized the better it is for the Pan-African movement.
