USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: [camnetwork] EPOCHAL ELECTIONS, 2012 - Every Vote Counts

Mr. Esale:

You put the pundits to shame. I wish you were Inside the Beltway. I would have called a pal to let me guest host and have you on a live radio show. But I will need a republican for equal time. I don't want EN to come and dance belle-sumbu reaganomics. Where U at Ngonyama?

Let me check some Africans whom I have interviewed live - Dr. Ayittey, Hon Chika of African Time, etc - on  heady topics. Geez, even American bon blanc will envy Mr. Esale's command of the stats.

Esu,

It is easier to fall in a ditch than to get out of one. Prior to Mr. Obama's administration, the American economy was losing an average of 700,000 jobs monthly. For 42 straight months we have observed a net gain in employment, with an average of 100,000 new jobs created monthly and 4.3 million jobs created since Mr. Obama took office in 2009.The Financial Service industry was on the verge of a total melt down. Mr. Obama stopped the free fall and rescued the economy from a complete collapse. Unemployment was 11.8% at national level and 18.2% in the African American community. Today unemployment has dipped to 8.2% nationally and 14% in the African American community.  The American Automobile Industry was going out of business, but today GM, FORD & CHRYSLER are back on top.

The Surplus that was inherited by Bush from Bill Clinton was turned into a deficit. Two wars were financed on a credit card, thus blowing up the National Debt and the Housing Industry boom became a burst. Tax cut for the wealthy few helped to skyrocket the deficit. All of these woes and more   forced America to bend under the weight of Moody's to accept a less than stellar credit rating in 2011, thanks to the GOP blind sided political & economic philosophy.

Such is what Mr. Obama inherited from a Republican Administration. That is how deep the ditch was and it is not a picture we make up. Things would have been better, were it not for a recalcitrant GOP congress. The Party of "NO" has resisted every attempt by the Obama administration to jump start the economy. Their #1 agenda has been to orchestrate the failure of Mr. Obama, thereby making him a "one term President". "When two elephants are fighting, it is the grass that suffers".

In spite of the foolishness from the GOP, the Obama administration has made significant head ways, bringing the wind on his back.

1) Unemployment is lower than 8.2%. That is a  drop from 11.8%.
2) 4.2 million jobs have been created since January 2009.
3) The American Automobile Industry is back on top. GM, FORD and CHRYSLER, are looking good.
4) Banks can lend money again business is simmering again.
5) The Housing industry is shaping up and showing signs of hope.
6) Regulations have been put in place to prevent another depression.
7) Rescued the American economy by the use of Keynesian Economic theory
8) Equal pay for Equal work is the Law of the land.
9) DADT was repealed.
10) DOMA has been decided in the minds of the electorate.
11) The DREAM ACT is now Law in USA.
12) Iraq war is over.
13) Osama-bin-Laden is dead and buried in the belly of some sea.
14) Al Qaida is weak, with most of the leaders killed.
15) America's image around the globe is better and more respectable.
16) Mr. Obama would be a transformational leader were it not for GOP obstructionism.
17) Etc, Etc, Etc, Etc, Etc.

Beat this record of accomplishments and we can talk.

Sam Esale.

Here you use big strokes to paint a blurry picture. One can surely read on what side you belong. In 2001, there was a budget surplus in the US. Campaigning, George W asserted that the excess belonged to the American people. He gave each American a piece of the American dream when he reduced taxes for all and the housing market peaked. It is wrong to give the impression that voting republican is taking away the America dream. What is at stake in the 2012 election is who can reduce the unemployment rate significantly after staying above 8% for 41 months. American are hurting. EN

EPOCHAL ELECTIONS, 2012
Every Vote Counts
By the Guru
The upcoming 2012 Presidential and Congressional elections are destined to be  epochal in the sense that their outcomes will ultimately determine the future of the American polity.  At this juncture in her nearly two and the half century history, the United States of America stands at a crossroads.  The big question, which direction will America head from January 2013 onward?, will be decided in November by the electorate.                                                                                                                                              ;
Specifically, the coming elections will provide blurry  glimpses as to whether the nation will continue on the path of progress toward the realization of America's promise for all or whether it will retrogress to becoming a class society much like Old Europe.
Indeed, more important than ever, the vote of every eligible citizen is crucial in this epoch-making election year. This year's elections are unlike all previous elections in which apathy intruded to dissuade some from casting ballots.  The contrast this time is stark, as the future outlook of American society depends on your vote, the medium through which citizen rights are best expressed in a democracy.
The stakes are high, very high.  But what do these high stakes consist of?  These stakes can be reduced to two diametrically opposing categories: (1) an inclusive America in which the lowliest-born citizen can dream, aspire, and actually realize his or her dream; or (2) an exclusive America in which the privileged and only the privileged have access to the American promise.
Representing these contrasting visions of America are President Barack Obama and Republican contender Mitt Romney. The question for voters is to decide the content of their dreams and determine which of the two candidates has articulated a compelling vision representative of those dreams.
This, in a nutshell, is the synoptic content of the coming 2012 Presidential and Congressional Elections. You cannot afford to stay out of this one. It's your turn to influence, shape, and make the American future in the present.
"The problem of power is how to get men of power to live for the public rather than off the public." Robert F. Kennedy
