THIS WEEK'S TOPIC: African Youth Decade Plan of Action
2009-2018 has been labeled by the African Union as the "African Youth Decade," a period to accelerate progress towards the African Youth Charter (AYC) outlined in 2006. The AYC has been signed and ratified by some, but not all, of the member states of the African Union. As the discussions around the Millennium Development Goals have indicated, such a framework for action is not achieved by itself. It requires the constant effort and vigilance of active media and concerned citizens.
This Friday's show seeks to explore in-depth the African Youth Decade Plan of Action. We will examine what the document states and our individual roles in achieving the stated goals.
Featured will be Bubacarr Baldeh, the African Views country director for Gambia, who is working on the UN System-wide Action Plan for Youth. He will help us understand the similarities between the objectives of the United Nations and those of the African Union.
