This is the kind of behind the scene advocacy that some of us do. Unglamorous, cerebral, unseen and unpaid even though it takes utmost professionalism in research, strategic presentation, public relations competence and a WHOLE LOT PUBLIC CREDIBILITY EARNED. The schedule was supposed to be full. I used subtleties.
We need a Continental African. If our voice is not part of the input, the policy /resources will not reflect our concerns. I can only try to do my best to ensure our community is not kept off the table. OVER TO YOU. Send me a mail so that we can go over the research and you do a MARVELOUS JOB. Check the website - down in the thread.

Subj: Re: Immigrant Workers Health and Safety HearingDear Ms. Joe,I was unclear from our earlier exchange that you'd like someone from your organization to speak. Right now the format is that each of the speakers in the opening panel, immigrants with first-hand experience with on-the-job dangers. After all have made their remarks they would take questions. Is there an immigrant worker from your community who would be willing to tell her/his story? If so, please e-mail me their name, contact information, as well as a few sentences describing their experience, as soon as possible.Thank you in advance and see you next Friday!Best,Jim Grossfeld=

Hello Mr. Grossfeld:Thanks always for your prompt response. Maybe there is a misunderstanding. I am with the Continental African community (African immigrants); not Haitian (a country) with an estimated 20,000 people in the DC/MD/VA Metropolitan Area. Here are two contacts for the Haitian Community: Carole Coaxum, email: cp.coaxum@att.net 301-935-5975. Father Arsene Jasmin is a chaplain for the Haitian Community and his contact number is: 202-234-8000. I don't know them personally; I was given the numbers. I know Yves personally that is why I mentioned him. We were hosts of respective programs at WPFW - Pacifica Radio. He still is. I misplaced his number but I will get it next week.My community (at least 10 times larger) faces similar and peculiar problems but with no outreach. Maybe next time African immigrants would be given the opportunity to be represented. Please keep us informed on the outcomes of the hearing.Regards,Evelyn JoeIn a message dated 9/15/2012 2:58:00 P.M. As I mentioned when we spoke the first time, it is a disgrace that the on-the-job dangers faced by immigrant Haitian workers has received little, if any, attention within the local media and by other opinion leaders. In that respect, your help in identifying a representative of the immigrant Haitian community who can speak next Friday morning is invaluable. It would be great if you could send me Yves contact information so I can phone him directly!Thank you so very much!Jim Grossfeld=
