"Exploring Every Corner of the Cosmos in Search of Knowledge"
It is vital to understand the perspectives on the cosmos developed by various civilizations.
What may one gain, for example, from understanding classical Igbo concepts of creativity, of relationships between freewill and destiny?
Are such ideas useful for reflection on the meaning of existence at this point in time?
Concepts from classical Igbo cosmology such as ikenga, ike and chi and disciplines such as Afa, can these be adapted to a modern context?
Concepts from classical Igbo cosmology such as ikenga, ike and chi and disciplines such as Afa, can these be adapted to a modern context?
Can these concepts and their associated practices be transported beyond the culture where they were born?
They certainly can.
I can provide a one month online course in classical Igbo cosmology for anyone who is interested.
This course will teach both the theory and the practice of classical Igbo cosmology in a manner faithful to scholarship on its traditional form.
The course will go beyond this traditional context in developing approaches to using these ideas as springboards for reflection on the meaning of life as well as in meditation and ritual practice.
The course will therefore be both philosophical and spiritual.
Philosophical, in that it will present and guide students in examining fundamental concepts of classical Igbo cosmology, doing this through an emphasis on reason. This will be a ratiocinative exercise in the spirit of Anthony Appiah's description of philosophy as 'thinking it through'.
The course will also be spiritual because it will aim to demonstrate that reality transcends the data readily available to the senses and the mind.
This spiritual training will be pursued through guidance in meditation and ritual based on classical Igbo cosmology and ritual practice.
Through the combination of philosophy and spirituality, one may better arrive at a comprehensive understanding of existence.
Interested people can reach me on this email address or preferably at my research center email address of compcros@gmail.com.
We can discuss a general curriculum, your special interests and needs, as well as prices.
