The thunder has flashed past the arena. Long after the rolling thunderous sounds, mortals are falling over each other to interprete the message of the thunderman. One interpreter from the bushes of Otuoke. Another interpreter from the snows of Alaska. Inbetween, all kinds of interpreters are scampering for intellectual precipitates and crumbs from the iroko. History is ablaze, war criminals are alarmed, ethnic jingoists endeavour to spin away starvation and other illegitimate weapons of war deployed to exterminate a people marked for extinction from the face of this God created earth.
Whatever is the intention of these interpretations, will they be able to spin away the life witnesses of a man of Achebe's calibre? A futile engagement, apriori, if the self crowned interpreters do not offer incontrovertibly antithetical testimonies and witnesses as evidence of their claims and review. It must however be ruled out, that none of these reviewers can proffer a more authentic account of war time occurrences. So, how can you review what you are not able to review?

This evening (October 31, 2012) I finally got a copy of Achebe's new book (delivered to me by Barnes and Nobel bookstore, Anchorage , Alaska ). I have cleared my desk to read it over the weekend. It is slightly over three hundred pages long and I should be able to read it in one evening. I will finally get to know what the entire hullabaloo is all about. I will write a Review of the Book by Sunday or thereabout.
A cursory look at the book does not seem to elicit the type of visceral anger and hatred that folks are evincing over the book.
The prose is vintage Achebe: simple, no complex diction or convoluted construction of sentences; any one can understand what the man is saying.
I promise a thoroughly professional review of this apparent controversial book. I will do my best to put aside my known prejudice towards Achebe (I tended to see him as a man who sees himself as a victim and writes from victim psychological perspective; I will put all that aside and give folks as good a review of the book as is humanly possible).
Cheers,
Ozodi Osuji
PS: It is exactly 2:00 AM Alaska time; I finally completed a 26 pages article on Oriental religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Zen), Quantum physics and How to get Africans to score high on Intelligence tests, and Scholastic aptitude tests.
