(Poem By: Chidi Anthony Opara)
The enslaved savant
With hacksaw
Set forth to the forest
To hack down the iroko tree
And cage the eagle
Perched
Atop the Iroko tree,
The mission failed.
The bard in bondage
With binoculars seek instead
Wilted feathers
On the eagle's beautiful plumage,
No wilted feathers were seen.
The enslaved savant
Posits
Half-truths,
Falsehoods,
Slave labour assigned.
The pugnacious poet
Lies for livelihood,
The poet lied again.
