Professor Soyinka and Gani Fawehimi  are two great intellectuals in Nigeria I have profound respect for. I remember telling my secondary school classmates that, should Gani and my father (whom I sincerely love)  vie for an elective position, that I would vote for Gani. Those days any newspapers article involving Gani or Soyinka attracts my attention to buy them. By a wonderful coincidence, my nephew uses Soyinka image for his screen-saver on his cell phone; and I have never discussed my affection of Wole with him. These two giants, Wole and Gani are men of the people; and I am happy that Gani died of natural causes and not through the hands of our government.

It is therefore a sad day in the history of Nigeria that, one of my remaining icons is being threatened by a national scourge called Boko Haram. If we interpret the meaning of 'Boko Haram' as western education is a sin, we quickly see that the name 'Wole Soyinka' is a direct opposite of Boko Haram. He is an example that western education is good. How can he not be? What has he not achieved in life with his western education? The twisted mindset of Boko Haramists is such that they would want us to go back 1400 years in history and live in age of ignorance. I do not that ignorance is bliss, but for God's sake, the nature of Boko Haram ignorance is like living in hell on earth. It is evident that this religious fanatics have every motive to kill Wole Soyinka, but God forbid. His life is non negotiable with these lunatics and care should be taken to guard his life jealously by his immediate family or security agents. He deserve every security detail Nigeria can offer to a General in the armed forces. Permit me to revert to Dr Ojo of cursed memory.

In one of Dr Ojo's rantings, he allowed himself to think that every Christian in the Northern part of Nigeria is an Igbo person. Earlier, Christians in the North had called on the government and their Southern half to help them against the scourge of Boko Haram. Dr Ojo, in his display of total ignorance, concluded that those Christians sending an S.O.S message were only Igbos who have refused to go back to their tribal land. It never occurred to him that, in the North, there are Yoruba Christians as well as core Northerners who are Christians. When I referred Dr Ojo as an internet buffoon, readers thought I was going for an overkill. If our Dr was just one of those who attack Igbos unjustly whenever they are bored, I would have brushed it aside. But in this case, we are talking of a man who, through these forums, started or permitted someone to campaign on his behalf for the position of presidency of Nigeria. Foul mouthed and ill tempered, Dr Ojo does not belong in a society of decent folks. Every minute of his existence, he reflects on tribal differences, religion and other nonsenses. In one of his article which I exhumed from my trash folder, he stated that his Yoruba tribe is superior to Igbo tribe. This is the  same man who claim to speak German. What would Hitler say to him? Is Dr Ojo a little Hitler?. Hitler claimed that his race, the Aryan people are superior to other races and went ahead to exterminate his enemies. If our Dr Ojo had the opportunity I am sure he would grab it with two hands. But God forbid that a mindless and ungodly creature as we now know as Dr Ojo should have the opportunity to confront the Igbo race.

Igbo and other tribes should consider that an attack on Wole Soyinka is an attack on the south. If Boko Haram and their sponsors feel that Wole Soyinka did not contribute anything to their lives, the south must stand up and challenge them as well as protect his life. If we do not, what are we going to do when they come for Achebe? Once again God forbid. We all know the story of the wolf (perhaps fox) and the chicken. At first the fox was scared by the chicken' comb, for it looks fiery red on top of the chicken's head. When eventually the fox came close and feels the fleshy crest, he soon discovered that the chicken was no longer a threat. Ever since then the chicken has been a menu in the fox's table. The moral of the story is that, once Boko Haram is successful in eliminating one intellectual then they will salivate on the remaining.

There's also this news cut on the detention and brutal murder of 2 yoroba university professors after they were locked in the car boot of their murderers who were their students. Poor yoroba professors. Will look for it, so they won't be forgotten as the yorobas here are too cowardly to remember and honor their memories. Igboka

Yoruba forum warns Boko Haram, others over killings
By Francis Falola, Abeokuta

Yoruba elders, under the aegis of Yoruba Unity Forum, on Thursday frowned on the killings of Yoruba by northern groups.

The group lamented that several sons and daughters of Yoruba origin had lost their lives to what it described as senseless killings in some parts of the northern states, declaring that an end must be put to such trend.

The elders gave the hint at the general meeting of YUF under the chairmanship of the wife of late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Mrs. H I D Awolowo, held at the Awolowo's Residence in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Yoruba elders who were in attendance at the programme included former Attorney General Minister of Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola; leader of Oodua Peoples Congress, Dr. Frederick Fasheun; Arch Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Mr. Taofeek Arapaja; among others demanded a stop to unnecessary killings of Yoruba in northern states.

Ajibola, who narrated how more than 800 Yoruba people living in Jos were killed, said, "As the chairman of panel of enquiry in Jos, I can confirm that Yoruba people were subjected to a lot of suffering. They were dealt with; lives were wasted; millions of naira were lost; in fact we saw how they beheaded them before hanging their heads on the trees. I appeal to the people to come to their rescue."

SOYINKA
Apapo Oodua Koya, (AOKOYA) has urged the Federal Government to ensure that the Boko Haram threat to attack Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka does not become a dream fulfilled. In a statement by the group's deputy spokesperson, Alhaja (Mrs) Medinat Oluwaseyi the pan-Yoruba group said that the threat by Boko Haram to kill Professor Wole Soyinka as confirmed by the Nobel Laureate in a recent interview is a direct assault on the Yoruba people and the democratic forces across the world.
"We warn today that any attack on Professor Wole Soyinka will lead to spontaneous reaction from the Yoruba nation. We shall respond with double measure of rage. We will not tolerate a deliberate attempt at eliminating Yoruba scholars and icons by a brutal gang of murderers that takes delight in spilling human blood for game." We caution that attack on Soyinka will lead to violent reprisal targeting Hausa-Fulani, from the Yoruba nation.
The threat against Soyinka, said Mrs Oluwaseyi, is a continuation of the unrelenting attacks on the Yoruba people in the Northern part of the country which takes the pattern of persistent brutal killings and murders of both Yoruba Christians and Muslims.
