Chidi,
Why should it be fruitless to reason with a releigious adherent who
only reads his own scriptures?
Moving on, yes, sometimes, "Too much of one thing is good for nothing
"
I wouldn't describe myself as "well-trained" in Judaism, even some of
the rabbis and cantors I know would be too modest to say that. Anyway,
I've studied it more than anything else that I know, almost
uninterruptedly the past sixteen years, so in the spirit of mortal
fallibility let me take a shot at your saying
"If too much of everything is bad, then, what amount of a
good deed can be said to be bad?" (Chidi Anthony Opara )
Chesed /loving-kindness is a good quality to qualify oneself with

– but that in the case of King Saul, he probably had too much Chesed,
bordering on misplaced humility and modesty, to the extent that he
disobeyed the Almighty's commandment to destroy Amalek in I Samuel
15:1 and condemned for not doing Agag in 1 Samuel 15: 16 ff
