AKE is seeking a specialist in the political, economic and security issues in sub-Saharan Africa. The successful applicant will produce high-quality intelligence from a number of open and closed sources to assist a range of public- and private-sector clients with interests on the continent. Duties include:
- Provision of subscription-based analytical intelligence, including daily briefings and country profiles. Political risk consulting and report writing for the insurance industry.
- Regular verbal briefings to clients, the media and other AKE staff.
- Internal company reports and briefings.
- Liaison, administration and management assignments as the company sees fit.
Requirements
The successful applicant should:
- Be educated to post-graduate level in a relevant discipline – international relations, politics, security studies, business studies, area studies. Candidates who have lived and worked in the region should stress this in their application.
- Be able to produce first-class analysis of political, economic and security trends.
- Have a good appreciation of the business environment and investment climate in sub-Saharan Africa. It would also be advantageous to have some prior experience in relevant sectors (insurance, NGOs, oil and gas, mining, media).
- Have a familiarity with a broad range of regional publications and both open and closed sources. Regional contacts would be advantageous.
- Be confident, easy going, and willing to engage in presentations and public speaking from day one; be adept at meeting, conversing and engaging with a wide variety of people, including former armed forces personnel, academics, the media, and private sector clients in the financial and insurance industries.
- Have a good command of IT skills, particularly the use of word processing and internet applications.
- Be fluent in written and spoken English; advanced knowledge of relevant regional languages and dialects will be an advantage. Knowledge of French would be highly valued in this position.
- Be capable of exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
This role is a full-time position based in London, although it may involve temporary work or even relocation to Lagos, Nigeria.
