Ojukwu's Will: It's a fake document –Emeka (Jnr)

Ojukwu's Will: It's a fake document –Emeka (Jnr)

The controversy trailing the Will of late Biafran leader, Odumegwu Ojukwu continued yesterday with Emeka Jnr who was read as the first son describing the document as fake. He dismissed the Will presented by Barr Emeka Onyemelukwe, contesting that he is a private counsel to Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu and not that of late Emeka Ojukwu.

Speaking at his country home in Nnewi, Anambra State, Ojukwu jnr argued that he has a copy of the original Will written by his father and not what he called the fraud presented as a Will. His words: "There have been rumours up to yesterday that there is an attempt to read the will and that they intend to make changes in the original will. Well, I have not seen the will that they read.

"Now, there are issues that come to mind, why were they no members of Ojukwu family when the Will was read? They were not invited and they were not told. "She was here last Sunday when we removed the mourning cloth and since she knows that the Will would be read, she would have invited us or even put us on notice. "

Now, the lawyer that is supposedly doing all this things is not our father's lawyer, Mr Onyemelukwe is not a lawyer that is known to the family as Ezeigbo's lawyer.

Remember when Ezeigbo was sick, the same Lawyer went to the press to claim that Ezeigbo is getting better and that he is now on exercise and would soon come home while he was lying.

It is still the same lawyer that claimed to have custody of the will. And I told everybody that it was not true and that since my father was flown to England, he never lifted an arm or spoke a word until his death finally".

Ojukwu's Will Declared Fake

By News Express, www.newsexpressngr.com, on 01/12/2012

Less than 24 hours after it was read in the Enugu High Court in Nigeria's South-East, the will of late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has been dismissed as strange and unreliable by one of his closest confidants.

The name of Chief Sylvester Debe Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the 56 years old lawyer reported to be Ojukwu's first son but who has had running battles with other family members since the old man's death on November 26, 2011, is conspicuously missing from the will. Recognised as Ojukwu's children in the will are Chukwuemeka Jnr, Mmegha, Okigbo, Ebele, Chineme, Afam, Nwachukwu and one
Tenny Haman, who was previously unheard of.

Commenting this morning on the will, Uche Ezechukwu, Ojukwus biographer and one-time media aide, said: “Ojukwu’s will has been read and it gave nothing to his sons and almost everything to his widow. Is that not strange? â€œCould Ojukwu, who was blind for four years before his death and had all but lost his memory, have written such a will with his senses intact? Just thinking aloud!

Ezechukwu, a seasoned journalist and public analyst whose book. Ojukwu, the Rebel I Served, has received much praise, insisted that he knows all of Ojukwus children and that Sylvester is one of them.

According to the man who served as Ojukwus Speacial Assistant on Media for some two years:  The Ikemba had the following children: Sylvester, from an Udi woman when he was an Assistant Divisional Officer there; then Emeka Jnr, Mmegha (the first daughter) and Mr. Okigbo from Njideka (Ned Onyekwelu); Ebele from Stella (nee Onyeador) and then the three kids from Bianca.

Responding to questions and observations made by some of those who responded to his Facebook post, Ezechukwu said: Accordingly, the will gave the family compound to Emeka. The Ikemba I knew understood Igbo culture very well and knew that you cant will out your traditional compound as it automatically goes to the first son, who holds it in trust for the family. It continues to be held in trust by every first male child. So in practical sense, Emeka got nothing! Very abnormal!

A man's ancestral house is not part of the will. The first son automatically inherits it. That is the house you say he willed to Emeka. What of Okigbo and Sylvester?

Ezechukwu, who is also Coordinator of the League of Anambra Media Professionals, advised that “the nation should get ready for perhaps the longest playing soap opera that will rubbish and dwarf all those acclaim we have had for Ojukwu.

“I knew this rumpus would erupt and when I was writing my book on him, I dodged everything about his family,†he wrote. I was there and knew his relationship with all his children before Bianca came. I didnt want to become the source of the storm that started breaking even before the mourning dress was shed.

Ojukwu's will read; 1st son Debe not mentioned, another unknown daughter benefits

The will of the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was on Friday presented to the family with his widow, Bianca, getting the lion's share.

The presentation by the Chief Registrar of the Enugu High Court, Mr Dennis Ekoh, was witnessed by Bianca, Mr Val Nwosu, Ojukwu's first cousin, and Mr Mike Ejemba.

In the will, the late Ojukwu identified one Tenny Haman as one of his children. Ojukwu listed the children as Tenny Haman, Chukwuemeka Jnr, Mmegha, Okigbo, Ebele, Chineme, Afam and Nwachukwu.

The Ikemba gave the Casabianca Lodge at No. 7, Forest Crescent, GRA, Enugu, two property at Jabi and Kuje in the FCT as well as all his money and personal effects to his widow.

He also said that Bianca should replace him as the trustee in the family company, Ojukwu Transport Ltd, while also giving her two plots of land in his village at Nnewi. He, however, added that if she re-married, the land should be taken away from her.

The first son, Emeka Jnr., got the family house at Nnewi, while the newly mentioned daughter, Tenny Haman, got the Jubilee Hotel located in Zaria, Kaduna State. The Biafran warlord also shared other landed property in the village among all his children.

Ojukwu listed the trustees and executors of the will to include Bianca, Emeka Jnr and Mr James Chukwuneme. The will did not mention Ojukwu's first son, Debe Ojukwu, the Akpunwa Nnewi.

Reacting to the will, Bianca, who is Nigeria's Ambassador to Spain, expressed satisfaction with its contents. "It was a fair will. This time round, he did not disappoint us,'' she said.

The ambassador, however, expressed shock at the disclosure of a new daughter in the family, whom she said had never been mentioned by her husband. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that none of the children was present at the presentation of the will. (NAN)"

GUARDIAN

Will: Ojukwu Shocks Bianca, Recognises Unknown 'Daughter,' Denies 'Son'... Debe Reacts

E-mailPrint

THE much expected Will and final Testament of the late Biafran leader and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the last election, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the Ezeigbo Gburugburu, was read at the Probate Registry of the Enugu High Court Friday before some members of the family, who were able to attend.

The mood at the office of the Chief Registrar of the Enugu High Court was that of anxiety. The expectations were high, as all gathered wanted to know in details the last Will of the late Dim Ojukwu.

A few minutes before 9am, the Registrar, Mr. Dennis Ekoh stepped into the registry and not wanting to sustain the air of anxiety, immediately sought the approval of the family members present to open the sealed envelop containing the Will, which he read clearly to the hearing of all concerned.

Among those who witnessed the brief ceremony was Ojukwu's wife and Nigeria's Ambassador to Spain, Bianca.

Ojukwu willed most choice property, including the contentious transport company in Lagos, Ojukwu Transport Company, in which he transferred his position in the company, to Bianca and her children.

"Bianca and her children should take over my position in the company," Ojukwu said in the Will.  "She may also wish to appoint somebody that can represent her on the Board if so desired," the Will read.

The transport company had been in contention following the insistence of Ojukwu's widow, through her lawyer, that the estate management agent, allegedly appointed by her late husband, Mr. Emmanuel Omuojine, would remain in charge of the five properties in Lagos.

Directors of the company had in a recent public notice disowned the agent, saying that at no time was he appointed by the company's Board of Directors to manage any of their properties.

The properties linked to the company include 13 Hawksworth Road, Ikoyi (now 13, Ojora Road, Ikoyi); 32A Commercial Avenue, Yaba; 29 Queens Drive, Ikoyi; 30 Gerard Road, Ikoyi and 4 Macpherson Avenue, Ikoyi, all in Lagos.

The much-talked about Will read in Enugu may have finally settled perceived family wrangling over who should control what property of the late Ikemba; that is, if those concerned would respect his wishes.

Bianca came in a black SUV, with some aides around 8.55am, dressed in a long native skirt and blouse, and shinny black shoes to match.

Ekoh had commenced the process by passing the two sealed brown envelopes containing the Will round the family members, journalists, executors and witnesses present in the room.

Surprisingly, Emeka Jnr and other family members called in to say they were on their way and had resolved to access a copy of the Will at the Registry.

The 'fireworks' began with the acknowledgement of Tenny Haman among Ojukwu's children, to whom he bequeathed his property.

The Nigerian ambassador to Spain would be all smiles later, as the Will awarded her Ojukwu's Enugu mansion, 'Casabianca,' at 7 Forest Crescent, GRA, which also was named after her.

The mansion is the only property of the late Ikemba in Enugu and was where he spent his last moments.

Bianca also got two property located at Plot 20, Jabi Abuja, with Certificate of Occupancy number 4405, as well as another at Kuje, Abuja.

The late Ikemba also willed to his beautiful wife all personal effects, monies and cars for her upkeep and that of her children, as well as two hectares of land at Umuezeani Umudim Nnewi with a proviso, "if she doesn't remarry."

Tenny was allotted Jubilee Hotels, Zaria, but when the codicil was read, it was observed that the hotel had been sold; hence she would receive proceeds from the sale.

For Emeka Jnr, it was not a fair deal, as he got only a house in Umudim Nnewi.

Ojukwu further willed a hectare of land each to all his daughters, but directed that his Nnewi property is "to remain a binding legacy to us for generations to come."

Bianca, who could hardly move from her seat after the Will was read, also refused to respond to questions from journalists, especially on whether she would re-marry.

The late Ikemba stated that only the eight listed, and no other person, should be regarded as his children.

Those listed were Tenny Haman (daughter); Emeka Jnr (son); Mmegha (daughter); Okigbo (son); Ebele (daughter); Chineme (daughter); Afam and Nwachukwu (sons).

He ostensibly shocked Bianca with the recognition of Tenny Haman, the new member of the family unknown to other family members.

Bianca betrayed her candour when she expressed shock that no one ever mentioned the young lady's name to her hearing.

But she was very pleasant about it, while one of the two witnesses to the Will, Mark Ezemba, acknowledged to other members of the family that he knew about the lady, who was obviously the late Ojukwu's first child.

Chukwudebe (Debe) Ojukwu, Lagos lawyer who manages some of the Ojuwu family properties in Lagos and widely acclaimed as the Ikemba's son, was conspicuously not given any mention in the Will.

The document was registered at the Registry on July 9, 2005 and was said to have superseded any other he had written before.

Incidentally, one of the Trustees and Executors of the Will and former monarch of Oraukwu in Idemili North Council, Igwe Emeka Ogbunude, died last year.

The surviving Trustees and Executors are Mrs. Bianca Odinaka Ojukwu and James Chukwunenye.

In his reaction, Debe told The Guardian that he had not seen the Will, but that from information filtering to him, there appeared to be certain flaws in it.

He said: "I was not there because I was not invited. And as a lawyer, I cannot be there uninvited.

"But my non-invitation shows that somebody had read the Will before now, because if the Will was confidential, as it ought to be, they would have invited all his relations and children, so that the content of the Will would be read before everybody."

He, however, hinted that he would not be challenging the Will in court, because he is okay with the way he is, noting that a father can decide to disinherit his child and share his property the way he wants.

He stressed though that such actions do not take away the fact that the child is his biological child.

He said what Ojukwu willed to Bianca was his personal property and not the company properties, adding: "Ojukwu said Bianca should be a Trustee in the transport company; that does not mean that he willed the company to her.

"That cannot affect the property I am managing, because I have a management contract.

"Besides, it was the Board of the company that handed over the property management to me, not Ojukwu.

"So, there is no cause for alarm," Debe insisted.
