Hypocrites? Reckless array of hypocrites who now line the Nigerian space? Strong words, and true words too! The only problem is that these hypocrites and their reckless array now line the political space in general, and the various government houses [particularly Aso Rock] in particular!

Those who barely a decade and a half ago during military rule, and less than a decade ago under OBJ, were the most vociferous in critiquing and condemning the mis-governance and treasury looting alongside vast human rights abuses that were going on; but who today because of various sizes of pots of porridge, the lure of money, as well as a very healthy dose of nepotism, have suddenly become people who can no longer see or hear any evil!

Was the shameless looting and personal agrandisement what we fought for in the days of the resource control struggles? Was this why we made the Kiaima declaration, and the Manifesto of the Chikoko Movement?

Is the stupidity going on now the reason we sacrficed so many lives? Where is the fundamental change that taken place with respect to absence of basic infrastrucures in the Niger Delta; or jobless rate among Niger delta youths; or the grinding poverty of ordinary Niger Deltans? And this under a regime headed by a Niger Deltan? and with the largest array of ex-militants and former activists lining up around the seat of power?

The article by Victoria [Venting on the Bayelsa crash] is in exact consonance with my sentiments and thoughts on the issue. I will only add, that this incidence has only just once again revealed the pervasive and endemic nature of the process of privatisation of public wealth, and the conversion to personalised private use of public utilities, infrastructures and services, that is rampant and widespread at all levels of government among public office holders.

It is a mere tip of the iceberg of rot that has held back our national development over the last 52 years.
