Dr. Assensoh: Do you think this has anything to do with the depreciation of Naira? No way! I am sure you know that, anyway. How many Nigerians can boast of having 10, 000 Naira in their accounts at the end of the month? Very few! Why then should depreciation of the nation's currency be blamed for such avarice, greed, and abject irresponsibility on the part of a Nigerian leader? This is nothing short of an evidence of the absence of accountability in the file and rank of the nation's leadership. It further speaks loudly to the level of extreme exploitation of the state of anarchy currently in place in Nigeria, where anyone who manages to wangle himself or herself into the political theater automatically obtains the ticket to suck the nation to its barest bone! In fact, you may refer your son to popular and academic writings about the peculiar exploitations of Nigerian politicians in another form of stealing public monies, called "Security Votes," which simply means free (pocket) money for anyone in power in the country.

Subject: USA Africa Dialogue Series - FW: 2 Billion Naira home for Nigeria's V-P? What do you think?
Brothers, Sisters and Esteemed Intellectuals of USA/Africa Dialogue:
My 17-year old son, who is doing a high school project on Nigeria's oil revenues, saw the information below about the 2 Billion Naira home being built for Vice-President Sambo of Nigeria. He was so surprised that he showed it to me. Brothers, Sisters and Esteemed Intellectuals, what does this mean to the Nigerian economy? is it true that Nigeria's Naira currency is so depreciated that 2 Billion Naira today is nothing? Please, help me to understand this situation in the context of Nigeria's prevailing economy.
A.B. Assensoh, Oregon.

There's a N50bn budget for the Federal Capital Territory and N2bn, according to the FCT Minister Bala Mohammed, is going into the construction of the official residence of Vice President Namadi Sambo, while N300 million is for the construction of the official residences of Senate president David Mark and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu; the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal; and his deputy, Emeka Ihedioha.
