Among others, check  The Cambridge World History Of Slavery, Volume 3: ad 1420 –ad 1804, especially pieces by G. Ugo Nwokej (chapter 4), "Slavery in Non-Islamic West Africa, 1420–1820 81, and Joe Inikori's piece (chapter 25),"Transatlantic Slavery and Economic Development in the Atlantic World: West Africa, 1450–1850 650".

I am looking for help finding the rough period of the Atlantic slave trade in the Niger Delta. Sources usually give the start date for the trade in West Africa – not specifically when it began in the Niger Delta. As best I can tell, it spanned several centuries – beginning with the Portuguese in the 15th century (based in what was then called Rio Real) and continuing until the 19th century. Can anyone recommend any authors/sources that would give more precise dates?
