(Poem By: Chidi Anthony Opara)
From the low ceilings
The mews of mating cats
Meandered
Into the cramped bedchambers.
The mating cats melodramas
Murdered sleep
In the shanty town.
Scared supplicants
Send supplications to heaven.
Witches and wizards
They wail,
Are here again
To wage spiritual warfare.
The mating cats
Continued to mate,
To mew.
When the melodramas mellowed,
The supplications subsided.
When the mating ceased,
The mews ceased.
Shouts of victory
From the supplicants
Erupted,
Witches and wizards defeated,
Another spiritual war won.
The day after,
The pews bulged,
The pockets of pastors
Bulged.
