USA Africa Dialogue Series - Mwalimu Dr. Mario D. Fenyo,

Monsieur le Professeur Mwalimu Dr. Mario D. Fenyo,

I do not intend an extended altercation about a piece of sweet nothing
So, this could easily be my last communication in this thread. As to
further forum activities I'll soon get round to "The Naipaul in us
all" - and a transcript of that major interview with Mo Yan and more
seriously sometime later an appreciation of "A mouth sweeter than
water." - both projects one little and the other fairly major don't
have to appear here. My little blog is as good a venue for that.

It was not my intention to impose any restrictions or to revoke
anyone's poetic license as I explained here

What I say here is not as important as the many things that I do not
chose to say. In this very public space. As you yourself may have
just noticed, I am not averse to fractal's Mwalimu Bangura awarding
you or anyone else any title whatsoever, in recognition or
appreciation of greatness or whatever. I don't grudge you that.
There's also Mwalimu Kafka , Mwalimu Ezra pound , I could go on naming
Mwalimu all day, in my estimation some of them not so great at all.

Mr. President of the USA will remain Mr. President no matter who does
not like the title to which he was democratically elected, just as Dr.
Johnson will for evermore be remembered as Dr. Johnson and Kwame
Anthony Appiah will remain who and what he is.

Over here in Sweden, I know a whole lot of folks who were appointed to
Professorships in Science and Modern Languages and engineering
before they were thirty years old. Some are now Emeritus. I guess it's
partly cultural that I would squirm to start hearing unfamiliar
references to one "Mwalimu"Davidson Nicol or Robert Wellesley Cole...

As you know, Pharoah is another great title - such as Pharaoh Sanders

http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&tbo=d&spell=1&q=Pharoah+Sanders&sa=X&ei=L-_1UMahKIXx4QS044DoDQ&ved=0CCwQvwUoAA&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.41018144,d.bGE&fp=41cdf7fd0da68100&biw=1024&bih=614

There was also Nat King Cole....

In one of the recordings Pepe Kalle can be heard calling Diblo Dibala
"Le Professeur" - when Diblo takes off on some wicked solo. What I
don't know is if in that instance Pepe Kalle was speaking French or
just getting excited with anticipation and giving some encouragement
Lingala. I would not have minded if he had cooed Mwalimu or
archbishop - although in that context Mwalimu sounds pretty tame to me
– the sort of title to be accorded Sergovia or our own Goran Sollscher

In my own little musical space I do not reject the name Maestro by a
friend or two. I have my own favourites. Are you one of your own
favourites?

And what about Sheikh Speare?

Considering his body of work and his contribution of a few thousand
new words to the English Language, methinks he will remain a great
Englishman, just as Osagefo will remain Ghanaian and Sheikh Idi Amin
the decorated will continue in some people's memory as " His
Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin
Dada, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of
the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and
Uganda in Particular."

All sincerely said

No harm or haram meant,

Cornelius Hamelberg
