Dear All,
In my view, Islam is a great religion and I respect its peaceful
practitioners.
I'm afraid that I may have given a very wrong impression and so I'm
begging to be given permission to correct that: Re - When I said that
one of my former teachers Adl Hamza of Mansoura used to tell me that
a Muslim is somebody who doesn't tell lies (darkly hinting at the Shia
doctrines of Kitman and Taqiyya - which I said I think is a
reasonable doctrine ( If the marauding enemy is hunting down Negroes
and they ask you " Are you a Negro ?" wouldn't it be reasonable to
say " No"? )
Well, Pikuach Nefesh is a good, practical consideration - in my own
personal judgement I would not hesitate to consume some pork - or
any of the forbidden seafood (lobster, crab etc) that I am naturally
allergic to, if that would save my life. I got to thinking about all
those who have been martyred in fulfilment of Kiddush Hashem, but
only after pressing the send button about Adl Hamza.

Yes, we all know about Massada...

I think that one would have to be very brave should a terrorist have
the sharp blade of the executioner's knife against your throat and
then ask you, "Yes or no , are you a Jew?"
When Sabbatai Zvi arrived at the court of the Sultan he was given a
very clear ultimatum : "OK Mr. Messiah, either you convert to Islam
right now or we execute you !"
For very practical reasons it seems that he preferred choosing
conversion to Islam in lieu of immediate execution.
His disciples were mortified; they said that S-Z chosen Islam so
that he could descend to the depths of hell so that he could redeem
some sparks there …

I intend to be away for a while.
I am currently working on "The Naipaul in us" …I'm also currently
feeling upset by Jeremy Weate's erroneous idea that an "African
writer"'s story/ poetry must be located somewhere in Africa or must of
necessity have something to do with Africa and not outer-space or even
science fiction....
I have still not got round to transcribing that Mo Yan interview –
maybe I should learn how to convert the CD into a sound file and
forward that to the forum and to Messrs Harrow, Adesanmi, Ikhide,
Funmi Tofowomo Okelola of CafeAfricana... but will check one more
time. Yesterday, I met an old colleague Birger, a Swedish guy who
translates from Chinese to Swedish told him about my audio copy of
the Mo Yan interview... he says that it's on You tube. I'll check, but
I doubt that we're talking about the same interview.....
My big project ( I'm ambitious) is an appreciation of a "Mouth Sweeter
than Water ". I've read Don Ikhide's masterly review. You notice that
I don't call him " Mwalimu" ?

They know that to do so will mean Hell Fire or Jahannama. For us Muslims, the Torah, the Bible, the Qur'an, the Hadith and other Islamic texts are very dare to us.
