Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Fwd: {'Yan Arewa} Top Universities in Nigeria 2011

I quite agree with Professor Harrow; the book Before Our Very Eyes (1987?) partly captures Soyinka's Ibadan days. The chapter by Professor Muyiwa Awe relates well how Soyinka led the group that formed Pirates Confraternity at UI. Shalom.

well, he counts as much from UI as Leeds. We once had magic johnson here at msu as an undergraduate, and i am not at all sure he graduated; but his name and statue are all over this campus

Does that mean no Nigerian university has produced a  Nobel laurate?

I once read Soyinka in an interview in the US Black magazine  Ebony  recounting the influence of Bornamee Dobree and Wilson Knight at Leeds on him.

He did not mention anyone from UI.

Does he do so in his other writings?

Thanks

Point of correction: Obafemi Awolowo University is yet to produce a Nobel Laureate; only University of Ibadan has, and that is Wole Soyinka (He is a product of UI, NOT OAU). Shalom.
