CENTRE FOR DEMOCRACY AND DEVELOPMENT (CDD) SEEKS A NEW DIRECTOR
The Vision and Mission of CDD are:
VISION - A West Africa that is secured, peaceful, economically prosperous and democratically stable.
MISSION - To be a prime catalyst and facilitator for strategic analysis and capacity building for sustainable democracy and development in West Africa.
CDD seeks to appoint a new Director who shall be based in its Abuja office.
Requirements
The candidate should have a postgraduate degree in the social sciences, humanities, law or a related field. Experience at the senior management level and work experience of 10-15 years is required in this role. S(he) must demonstrate knowledge of democracy and development issues in West Africa as well as experience in the NGO and/or academic sectors. Skills in management and leadership, capacity building, advocacy and training are essential. The candidate must be able to demonstrate thought leadership in the areas mentioned above and be able to introduce and implement innovative ideas and practices using a consultative approach. The candidate must at a personal level have a strong commitment to human rights based approach to democracy and development; champion women's rights and value working to improve the lives and livelihoods of the poor and marginalized groups. Competence in French will be an advantage.
Duties
The core responsibility of the Director shall be to act as chief executive and to provide strategic leadership for the organization, continue to grow it into a leading centre of excellence in deepening democracy, promoting peace and advocating for People-Centered Development in West Africa. The Director shall be working with the International Governing Council together with the Senior Leadership Team to craft and implement on-going and new programmes and projects. The Director shall act at all times with a fiduciary duty to CDD. The Director reports to the Governing Council and on a day-to-day basis to the Chair of the Governing Council of CDD. The Director shall enhance the vision and mission of the organisation. The Director shall be responsible for developing and recommending to CDD's Governing Council the annual work programme, budget and staffing plans. The Director shall have the authority to recruit, supervise, evaluate and terminate all CDD employees based on approved procedures laid down by the Governing Council. The Director will be required to make frequent trips outside the countries of CDD operation.
Salary shall be based on skills and experience.
