I'm still researching on a small scale my forthcoming essay on "The Naipaul in us all". Should e.g. Ngoh Ikhide unlike the stony illiterates find it engaging, that will be sufficient satisfaction for me. To that end in addition to select works of V.S.Naipaul and Shiva Naipaul's delightful "North of South" I'll also be looking for some textual support from Paul Theroux's excruciatingly funny "Fong and the Indian". That should suffice.
I'm at this very moment searching for the exact words of not Franz Fanon but Frank Moreas from his "The Importance of being Black" which I read during the rainy season holiday between Lower and Upper sixth.
A more important reference work is Balachandra Rajan's seminal," Under Western Eyes" which is undergoing a re-reading and the going is slow although I normally read at 250 mph, but this is being read care-fully and was surely not written at the pace at which Jacob Neusner usually writes or the rate at which I could churn out a fairly cheap poem – still good enough for a wow here and there...
In case some of you are wondering, gentlemen and ladies all, don't get me wrong about my contemporaries and friends who are currently on and some others who have retired from the faculty of some Swedish Universities. It's not such a big deal – not even for the weakly paid.
Frank Moreas once wrote, that those who have been in the darkness for a long time - when suddenly exposed to light, can be dazzled by that light for a very long time.
On Mon, May 23, 2011 at 1:28 who was it, talking about himself and beating his chest again , saying ,"Stay tuned for the biggest announcement for an honor that has been bestowed only to giants like Mazrui, Zaleza, Achebe, Soyinka, etc."
Is the gentleman in question really in the same category or calibre as the aforementioned or is it only some more illusions of grandeur! We are still waiting for the earth-shaking announcement....
Still have that CD from the Swedish Academy of the first long interview of Mo Yan....must convert and convey it to the Forum's literati. There's still the outstanding appreciation of "A Mouth Sweeter Than Salt" and - sigh - finally should settle down like a settler - for the 1,000 page long haul...
For now must update my blog with insights I derived from Dr. Eli Göndör's lectures on Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday – lectures that have transformed me from optimism of the sort enjoyed by Professor Mark R. Cohen, to even more optimistic realism of the sort transmitted by E.G. - and I listened to him carefully, because I revered his father Ference Göndör – strange – I think of him as I do just now and feel a light in my heart.
