Not at all.

Do not confuse EZE or IGWE (King) with chief (lord or knight) in Igbo culture.

Any Eze or community can make someone a chief for a variety of
reasons. That person need not be from that community, and no palace is
required. And the chief has no subjects or autonomous community to
rule or govern. It is simply an honorary title. So nothing wrong in
general; and each case should be judged on its own merit.

Perhaps the confusion comes from how some chiefs out of pomposity or
others out of ignorance represent the chieftaincy title as something
more that it really is or sometimes even describing a chief as a king,
which is ridiculous.
