Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Don Ohadike: Eight Years After

I do remember the late professor Ohadike with fond memories. I first met him at
one of brother Falola's annual meetings in Austin, Texas, many, many years ago.
As I recalled, he and other intellectual timbers such as professor Sklar were
waiting for a bus to take us back to our hotel, when he said to my friend
Bennett and I jovially that we should wait for the next bus because he and the
other top Africanists were in the process of catching the first bus. I pleaded
with him to allow us join them since in my village we have a saying that "he who
follows a native doctor eats a foul's legs." In other words, if they allowed us
to follow them, we might be lucky enough to be influenced by their intellect. We
had a big laugh after my adage. At this point, Ohadike then said to me "you have
spoken well--come join us."
