now it gets obama off the hook, thanks to putin. they can both sit back, continue to arm the two sides, continue to cluck their tongue over how bad the other side is, and let the syrians, now w 5 million displaced and 120000 dead, go on suffering.
i asked juan cole friday about what should be done. his answer i found unacceptable, not to say dispiriting. he said, the lebanese fought it out for 15 yrs, with almost a million deaths, because they exhausted themselves and came to a peace agreement.
surely human beings, including us, especially us, need to insist on a better solution, especially after world war ii and the formation of the united nations, the creation of un conventions.
