Opinion
When hegemonic powers wish to extract concession/s from other (weaker)
nation-states—in pursuit of their so-called national interest/s—it is not
uncommon to apply Threat, Flattery, Deceit, Bribery, etc. a la Machiavelli's
dogma or dictum: The end justifies the means. In short, what is generally
important to dominant powers is that they "obtain their objective." This
strategy is also applied in domestic politics with respect to the actions of
Presidents and Prime Ministers. You may call this political ploy "Games
Politicians Play." So, it is possible to avoid "the mother of all battles this
time" if the actors play the game right.
