| Dear Brothers and Sisters of Prince George's County and Africans in other jurisdictions: As some of us may know, the genesis of the African Heritage Month is traced to Montgomery County, Md. in 2008. The underlying purpose of a Heritage Month is to reflect on the presence, appreciate the accomplishments and herald the contributions and values of an American population. The Continental Africans constitute a New American population as the quest for National Proclamation is made. The District of Columbia was the second jurisdiction with an Official Proclamation of the African Heritage Month. This year, the request for congressional sponsorship of the African Heritage Month as a Bill for the National Proclamation by the sitting President of the United States was done. This realization carries developmental consequences both in the local jurisdictions in the US and US-Africa Relations. Who are we in context of the drives that influence, shape and make this Land of the Free and Home of the Brave? The answers, brothers and sisters, lie in you, the self-esteemed product of Africa, to bring our added-value. From the Pilgrims in the 16th centrury, each population defines itself. At the African Heritage Month's Imagine and Beneficence Banquet Awards on September 28, 2013 to benefit the launching of Obamacare with a Community Health Navigator (added value), the Government of Prince George's County will be presenting Prince George's County's First Proclamation of the African Heritage Month. It is also an honor to note that Prince George's County, Md produced the first elected public official from with African immigrant background, Councilman Edouard Haba of District 4 in the City of Hyattsville. The Newark, New Jersey Mayor's African Commission is coming to town! Reflecting the indigenous African institution, the anchor of our people-hood, Mafor Edwan Fon, a long time community organizer and cultural standard bearer, will accept the Official Proclamation, which will be archived as a historic document, including at the US Library of congress. This event is filmed as part of the submission for congressional education and for the White House appreciation. Once more, if you may learn about how Heritage Months are proclaimed, the substance and significance - see below. May God Bless you all as we look forward to a Splendid PanaFest, coming up on Saturday September 21 at downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. Here are examples of Heritage Months: |
