These seem like great ideas and books, one reason I enjoy being here, this forum is always an awesome resource. I think for me, the best book ever on the subject of globalization as it applies to Africa, is the Internet, The book's influence on the subject matter pales in comparison. Clearly, the advantage of a really good book thoughtful book is that you don't have to go rooting for stuff all over the place. But books take a long time to write and globalization is all about change, constant change.
Many scholars are beginning to see the Internet and social media as a rich source for documenting the gentrification that is going on all over the world. They scour the Internet and compile on a regular basis, essays like Chika Unigwe's Losing my voice, and create their own powerful and customized resource, in addition to books, of course, in enriching the discourse. I see also robust opportunities for instruction in Black Africa where the Internet offers mostly free resources to classroom teachers genuinely interested in overcoming certain hurdles, to reach and teach young ones.
I would also add that this forum is probably all you need to cobble together a rich classroom conversation on globalization. You are witnessing for instance the back and forth on university education in Nigeria and the palpable tension between thinkers in the Diaspora and those in the continent. You can't make that up. Certainly not even in the best books out there.
Be well, man.

dear kwabena
the best book on globalization and africa, i believe, is james ferguson's Global Shadows.
it is a terrific book.
a second recommendation is pius adesanmi's You're Not a Country , AFrica. it might not serve your purposes entirely since a fair amount is also centered in the diaspora, and its more as memoirs or personal essays that social science analysis, but in truth it does deal, with insight and wit and style, precisely with the contours of our globalized world and social entities in africa and in the diaspora. if you include africa in the diaspora, which i think is fair, then it fits even better for you.
i would also consider manthia diawara's memoir, In Search of Africa; andhis films even more, In Search of Africa, Bamako Sidi Kan

--Folks,I am looking for (1) books on globalization and social change in Africa, and (2) recent books on historical methods related to African history. I intend to use such books for upper level undergraduate courses, and would greatly appreciate suggestions and leads from all, especially those who have taught similar courses. Thanks.
