You might consider putting together articles published in academic journals on the topic as a reader for your class. That said, take a look at Toyin Falola, Violence in Nigeria: The Crisis of Religious Politics and Secular Ideologies (1998, U of Rochester Press); a little dated but can provide critical historical perspective to the study of communal violence in Nigeria.Selections from this text, supplemented with academic articles could be what you are looking for.
