All the signifiers are tall buildings, neon lights, technology and Internet, businesses and capitalism, swimming pools, night life, culinary traditions , etc. I would choose my hometown in the lush Akuapem Mountains over Accra because the latter has lost its humanizing allure.  I am off to the "village" where graceful birds chirp and where elegant cocks crow to herald the movement of the silent sun.

 

Trapped in the chilling vortex of urban chaos

The soothing warm winds of rural Africa lure me

 

My lungs are full of urban pollutant and poison

Mother, I am coming home to breathe your rural purity

 

Mother, your winds of purity from the ancient rural hills

Oh, will caress me to sleep in your arms again

 

And I will drink from your rural wells of purity

And visit my childhood's watersheds of innocence

 

Mother, I will drink from the ancient rural wells

And Mother Africa I will sprout whole again forever
