Dear Tt,
Much as i appreciate the point you made in your comment, i however think that your mathematics is wrong and far from objective reality. In the first instance, I have boarded buses at Yanyan, which is not different from boarding busses in Lagos. From experience, I know that when a bus is loaded with passenger, it travels without any further delay. As all Nigerians on this e-group would also confirm, many Nigerian commuters are not blessed with patience. I am also not. No passenger bus dares to wait a minute longer after it is loaded, most especially during work-hour. Given this, it is just impossible for the 14 buses to have 50X40 passengers at the time of the incident. It is impossible for 14 loaded passenger buses to just sit down there. What are they waiting for?
While not speaking for and on behalf of either the government or the media, I do not think it is responsible for government or journalists to release total or absolute figures on casualty to the public, as this will certainly heat-up the polity. This however is not a license to hide or obscure the facts. I am of the opinion that all logical steps, including deliberately placing emphases on other issues rather than the absolute numbers, must be taken to ensure that Nigeria does not implode.
Notwithstanding the fact that many are now profiting from Boko Haram, everybody, including government, condemns Boko Haram and its activities. The incident at Yanyan and the attendant losses (in lives and property) are as bad as those that occur daily on our roads, in our glorified clinics called hospitals, etc. There is no doubt that government in Nigeria has lost the fight against Boko Haram. I am not discounting the need for data, I however believe that the time now calls for finding ways to address the menace posed by the group, as against basking in unprofitable argument over the number of the dead, the wounded, and related stuffs.
For instance, I consider the words coming out from troops in Boko Haram-infested states that members of the military have turned Boko Haram into a business, as worrying. Equal in order to this is a situation whereby a top-brass military officer in-charge of the security situation in these Boko Haram-infested states just recounted his earlier claim that all abducted pupils have been released. Where did he get the earlier 'fact'? Is the matter been investigated? Who is paying for this act of irresponsibility? I see these and many more important and beneficial than heating up the polity.
Oyeniyi.

Loosing and winning as an issue here can only be a political stand. Do the math, 17 buses and 24 other vehicles were burnt in Nyanya,, each bus has a carrying capacity of about 50. Nigeria believes that if we do not tell the truth we (the govt) will not look bad. We have arch-tribalist here who want to talk about United State of Africa, is that because it rhymes with USA? They also think "rotational presidency" is "democracy". People let's sound half way logical. Tt--
