(For TF...)
History reliving history:
The tiny errand feet
traversing the ancient land
whose unsung story
the steady errand pen will come
to tell in the King's employ.
B'obapitan:
You have become
the King's mouthpiece
that unearths precious historical
gems that lie locked in
granite stone of long forgotten lores
Tell history's story;
and let Ibadan unravels
beyond the nestling womb
of the golden rust
Gather the broken pieces
scattered among the seven hills
of forgotten feats--
gudududu meje, yaaya mefa
(the heroic deeds of yester-then).
Tell Nigeria's story too
and let remembrances crackle
from within the hot fissure
of dark memories. If we must
remember, we must also forget.
The narrative of nationhood
stretches the patience
of the mind...yet
history must save us.
And you are History's right-hand
that scribbles remembrance.
B'obapitan:
The King does not
invest in sinecure; the task
has been delegated to him
who must do it.
History outraced our childhood,
but aroba rescued our ignorance
in a mouth sweeter than salt!
Let history unravel itself
and let our memories burn.
