USA Africa Dialogue Series - Governors must handle security in their states, Jonathan lives in Abuja - Cleric

The Bishop of the Diocese of Kubwa Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Duke Akamisoko has advised state governors responsible for security in their respective states to take security issues in their states seriously.

Addressing a pre-Synod press conference in Abuja yesterday, Rev Akamisoko said leadership comes with huge responsibilities and anyone who could not discharge such duties has no reason to remain in power.

"If you cannot fulfil the responsibility that goes with the office that you occupy, all you need to do is to leave and go home," he said.

The Bishop absolved President Goodluck Jonathan of blame over the North East insurgency, saying the governors of the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe should be held responsible for the security issues in their respective states.

"The governors are elected to solve the problems of their states. The president lives in Abuja, although he has supporting roles to play, but we must hold the state governors accountable.

"To say the security of Bayelsa, Kaduna is in the hands of Jonathan is totally correct, because if that is the case, we should not have the governors".

Speaking on the church's plan for a university, the cleric said the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) has given it an approval for a take-off.

He said during the 2nd Synod which comes up next week in Lugbe, Abuja, an appeal fund of N2 billion will be launched for the school to begin operation.

The cleric promised that the school fees would be fair and reasonable relative to the cost of sustaining the institution but not absolutely cheap, saying university education is expensive. He however assured that indigent students will be offered scholarships.
