Hello:
If you are receiving this mail, your email addresses or group email, must have been included in communications relating to Africa Diaspora developments. It has been close to a month since Dr. Jinmi Adisa, Director of the African Union - Citizen Directorate, sent out a communiqué (attached) in which he expressly requested proposals for an Africa Diaspora program alongside the US-Africa Summit. Anyone or entity could have taken risen to the task. It is a hope that people of goodwill can come together for the benefit of common cause or support programs that are responding to the AU-CIDO requests. Old school can mentor the new and the new can bring synergy to the mix. These should not be mutual exclusives.
Based on records, Africa Diaspora groups, especially those with previous relations with the African Union, have expressed all manners of expectations (funding from the AU or external benefactors); are prone to undermining theatrics (if they are not in charge through churning theories, it should not be done); they refuse to forward relevant information; to outright hostility (deriding the AU, venting on their experiences), which are based on what they think the AU ought to do or should have done. In manifestation of social ruthlessness and no socio-emotional intelligence, they question who you are and project themselves all at once. Each claims to be the superior entity or person that the AU, if not Obama himself, should have been dealing with. Finally, they would rather nurse their ideas of being sidelined than do anything to help. These displays of dysfunctions (some childish, mean spirited, self-centered) are evident in internal fights complete with diatribe-laced emails and lamentations, some of which have found their way to the public via the media. The image of a hapless, witch hunting, scandal-happy, crab in the basket Africa Diaspora is an unfortunate reinforcement of the stereotype.
One may ask: What stops anyone from addressing the points?
All is well and dandy in the plurality of opinions - if we call it free speech. In the same manner of free expression, others believe a non-response to the AU-CIDO request for a program is not sensible. In order to realistically respond to the request, they believe the proposal must be precise as to the financial and human resource necessary to organize the program with outcomes that are aligned with the African Union Diaspora initiatives. This is happening on August 4, 2014. See below.
The choice to sensitize and engage Stakeholders (with calls for solutions in implementations) on the African Union Diaspora Legacy Projects is central to AU-Diaspora relations. The complementary events generate and promote partnerships in the global community, highlighting the identity and capacity of Africa Diaspora while promoting Africa in the global dispensation. Yes, not all is blight and doom about Africa. If so, nobody can explain why Corporate Council on Africa, land grabbers to Safari lovers go to Africa.:-)) This Rising Africa must be told and sold for a balanced picture. The African Union Diaspora Post is being launched to inquire, inform, inspire.
We are glad to note the increasingly diverse, regional partnerships, from grassroots to thought institutions, that are responding to make it happen. The outreach is ongoing with co-conveners. Some have indicated an Interfaith Breakfast Program on August 5, which will call attention to the need for unified fronts in addressing calamities in Africa communities or hot spots. Boko Haram, Mali insurgents, carnage in Central African Republic.....for examples. Both the AU and the US State Department have faith-based outreach programs.
On Friday June 27, an update will be published. The Organizing Committee members from all the regions are having weekly conference calls each Saturday at 1:00pm.
Your responses will be sent to Jennifer Gray-Brunskine, James Athanis, Tegi Obandi or Jesmed Suma manning the conference floor to ensure that your registration, details, and hospitality due are confirmed. Please click on the links.
Until tomorrow, have a wonderful day.
Best,
MsJoe
