Did Shell not shell out large sums of money a while back to Ogoni people in a US court?   Wasn't the money for environmental restoration.  So, who chop the money?  Go find the guy who chopped the money and burn down his house.  Leave Jonathan alone for now, he got too much on his plate.

All the same, if your bros is president you should get something extra.  That is expected.  If you don't get something while your bros is president, you are SOL.  Forget what the book says about the mechanics democracy.  When you get to rock you do for your people and try not be civilized about it.  After presidency, you gotta go back to your people and then what?  And you say, You didn't see the money?  That's when they should burn down your house.

Jonathan should not play by the book, because after Jonathan, Rivers and Delta bros will not see presidency for a long time.  Anything that is done right now under Jonathan will be hard to come by.

So, Jonathan should do his best for his people.  Find something for your people right now; give them extra, afterall na their oil dey oil the treasury.  If Jonathan no fit find money to give him people, let him ask Sanusi how to drive a 2 shovel loader Tipper into the Federal Treasury and fill it up with USD.  I mean korokoro eye. Take the money and moonwalk out like MJ.

If Jonathan can't find the money to clean up the Delta environment, well, then, sue Shell again.  Or take the money that is supposed to go to Bornu State, since is now a No Man's Land.  And rather than trying to punch Amaechi in the teeth all the time, the two should combine to force Shell to build schools, put water, put light, put everything all over Rivers and Delta areas plus Mbano.

Is this not just horrible?  A President of Nigeria, from the Niger Delta is in office, but the Ogoni people's problems, with regard to the environmental devastation, which their communities suffer from, continue not to get adequate national attention.

Of course, President Jonathan, cannot on his own change the situation, in a democratic setting, in which coalition formation, national messaging, and legislative lobbying must be accounted for, in explaining national policies.

However, it is fair for the community to simply put the president on the hot seat, over the situation.  He might be able to influence the attitude of all of the important stakeholders.  Quite notably, among those stakeholders are some of the delusional conferees from northern Nigeria, who were saying recently at the National Conference, that Niger Delta oil belonged to the North.

Meanwhile, as long as the entire country continues to be committed to what I have called the ethic of the loot, by which successive generations of Nigerian political leaders have viewed the national wealth, as a pile of loot to be plundered, most Nigerians merely ignore the devastating problems that the Ogoni people are addressing here.

How might change be brought about?  I think it would require coalition formation, across the geopolitical landscape.  It would also require the election of national legislators from the Niger Delta region, who would go to Abuja determined to force the country, to repudiate the ethic of the loot.

I thank you.

OGONIS ACCUSE JONATHAN OF ENVIRONMENTAL TERRORISM

Category: News Published on Tuesday, 05 August 2014 05:00 Written by Victor Edozie, Port Harcourt & Daniel Adugbo, Abuja

The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) yesterday accused President Goodluck Jonathan of aiding environmental terrorism in their land due to the failure of his government to implement the United Nations Environment Report (UNEP) Report three years after it was released.

The association said that nothing was being done by the Federal Government as Ogoni people continue to die as a result of the degradation of their communities by the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) while the oil giant continues to dodge its responsibility.

MOSOP President, Legborsi Pyagbara said this at a seminar in Bori, Khana Local Government Area, Rivers State to mark three years of the release of UNEP Report.

He said while the Federal Government has raised billions of naira to fight terrorism and support its victims, the Ogonis remain neglected in face of deaths and misery.

"In saner environments, the Ogoni environmental crisis would have forced the government to declare a state of emergency on the Ooni environment, but here our lives do not count…" he said.

However, the Federal Government yesterday said it will hold a meeting with the Ogoni elders and community leaders tomorrow on the implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report on Ogoni land.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Information, Public Relations of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Kingsley Agha, the Petroleum Resources Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has mandated the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Danladi Kifasi to open a dialogue with the Ogoni People to fashion out modalities for the implementation of the report.

The UNEP, at the request of Nigeria, conducted an independent assessment of the environment and public health impacts of oil contamination in Ogoni land three years ago. The report was released on August 4, 2011.

Part of its recommendations was for a committee to be constituted by the federal government to over seethe process of remediation and restoration of Ogoniland in addition to the establishment OF a fund with an initial sum of $1billion by Shell and the federal government.
