Check out "Spellbound"
http://www.jazzonthetube.com/videos/joe-sample/spellbound.html, which is from the album, "Spellbound", and this This from the show Night Music, and it was around the time that my girls were born. I used to stay up and watch this eclectic show (e.g. putting Sony Rollins with Leonard Cohen and a funk band-- it worked) because I couldn't, or they wouldn't let me, sleep, and I remember how much I loved this piece. Marcus Miller on bass, Omar Hakim, drums, and Hiram Bullock on guitar.
Ahh sweet soul music, nostalgia and memory; we'll take them with us and sing with our good ancestors, with Joe playing those mean, funky chords!
